Sioux Falls, South Dakota: Disability Resources
On This Page
Sioux Falls has distinct city and county entry points for urgent financial needs, housing repairs, and transportation. Minnehaha County assistance has its own eligibility process. City housing repair programs also differ from rental assistance, so describe the problem before choosing an application.
County Emergency Assistance
Minnehaha County Human Services describes assistance that may address shelter, rent or deposits, utilities, medication, and other urgent needs after eligibility review. Contact the county with the specific expense and timing. Ask whether your residence and circumstances fit the program and what documentation is needed; the list of services does not guarantee available assistance.
Housing Repair Programs
Sioux Falls Housing Division provides information about home rehabilitation and mobile-home repair programs for qualifying residents. Rental rehabilitation is a separate program directed to property owners. Identify whether you own the home, own a mobile home, or rent before contacting staff, and ask which current program can consider the repair.
Bus and Accessible Transportation
Sioux Area Metro links to route planning, on-demand rides, and paratransit information. Via handles day-to-day service questions and bookings; the city retains oversight and reasonable-modification contacts. Ask which service fits your trip and whether a separate application is required for paratransit.
Before You Contact a Program
- Identify whether the requested help is county assistance or a city housing program.
- Prepare the bill, repair description, or other information the program requests.
- For transit, provide both addresses and describe boarding or travel barriers.
Federal Benefits and Next Steps
Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.
