Aberdeen’s housing authority, senior center, and Ride Line offer different kinds of help. The housing authority’s waiting lists are not an emergency-housing service. Start with the need that must be addressed first, while keeping longer-term applications and transportation arrangements separate.

Housing Applications and Follow-Up

Aberdeen Housing Authority FAQ offers online pre-applications and explains differences between vouchers and authority-owned housing. Its FAQ says it does not provide emergency assistance, and waiting times vary. Save the confirmation number and report contact changes using the authority’s instructions so that a later notice can reach you.

Senior-Center Activities and Resources

Aberdeen Area Senior Center offers activities, information, and programs for older adults, with membership available from age 50. Ask about membership, the specific activity, and accommodation needs before visiting. A senior-center membership does not enroll someone in housing, personal care, or other separately administered benefits.

Ride Line Transportation

Aberdeen Ride Line provides public transportation in its defined Aberdeen service area. Most vehicles have lifts; request an accessible vehicle when making arrangements. Register as a rider and check the advance-booking requirements. Separate out-of-town medical transportation arrangements should not be assumed to follow the regular local service rules.

Before You Contact a Program

  • For housing, distinguish an application from an immediate emergency need.
  • Check the senior program’s participation requirements and any charges.
  • Confirm pickup coverage, an accessible vehicle if needed, and the return ride.

Federal Benefits and Next Steps

Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.

For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
