Jersey City residents have both city and Hudson County entry points for practical support. County transportation and aging programs serve a wider area, while the city’s emergency resource directory helps residents find homeless services and benefit contacts. Choose the route that matches your immediate need.

Hudson County Division on Aging

New Jersey’s county directory identifies Hudson County’s Division on Aging as the local aging and disability resource contact. Older adults, adults with disabilities, and caregivers can start with information and referrals for community supports. Ask about the relevant program’s eligibility and assessment process; the directory itself does not confirm admission to a service.

Hudson County Transcend

Transcend provides non-emergency transportation for eligible Hudson County residents, including older adults aged 60 and above, adults with disabilities, and veterans. It is shared, demand-response, curb-to-curb service with wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Listed destinations include medical care, employment, nutrition sites, and shopping. Confirm eligibility, your intended trip, and the assistance you will need beyond the curb.

Jersey City Emergency and Benefit Resources

The city’s emergency shelter directory directs people experiencing homelessness to Hudson CASA Coordinated Entry. It also lists Hudson County Welfare and SNAP for benefit enrollment. Shelter providers serve different household types, and the city advises calling ahead where space is limited. Use the directory to confirm intake and availability; it is not a reservation or guarantee of accommodation.

Before You Contact a Program

  • Tell intake staff who needs assistance and whether housing is needed immediately.
  • For Transcend, prepare pickup and destination addresses and explain mobility-device or aide needs.
  • Keep benefit application references and shelter referral information separately for follow-up.

Keep Federal Benefits Separate

Community services and transportation address immediate needs while federal disability claims follow SSA’s process. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.
