Colorado Springs residents generally look to El Paso County for public-benefit applications, regional aging services for information and Mountain Metro for local accessible transit. Check the specific program rather than assuming that all support is managed by the city.

El Paso County Assistance Programs

El Paso County Human Services: Assistance Programs links to food, medical and adult financial assistance. Applications can be submitted through Colorado PEAK, with other submission routes described by the county. Each program has its own requirements. Use the current program page to identify the relevant application and supporting information rather than sending the same paperwork indiscriminately to several offices.

Pikes Peak Information and Assistance

Pikes Peak Senior Information And Assistance Center provides information about regional services for adults 60 and older and their caregivers. The center’s resources include guides to services and transportation. Explain the person’s residence, main needs and existing support. Staff can help identify options; the information service itself does not guarantee a place in a separate program.

Mountain Metro Mobility

Mountain Metro Mobility offers pre-scheduled transportation for people whose disabilities prevent independent use of regular Mountain Metro buses some or all of the time. Eligibility and route-related service boundaries apply. The page also describes application assistance and alternative formats. At the source check, the separate Taxi Choice option was suspended; do not plan a trip on the assumption that it is available.

Before You Contact a Program

  • For county assistance, identify the program and any current case or renewal notice.
  • For aging information, describe the tasks or services that are difficult to arrange.
  • For Mobility, explain barriers to regular buses and check both trip addresses.
  • Ask about application accessibility and current service availability before relying on an option.

Federal Benefits and Next Steps

Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.

For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
