State & City Resources
Aurora, Colorado: Disability Resources
On This Page
Aurora residents should confirm their county and the exact program area before applying. The Aurora Housing Authority, DRCOG resource center and RTD serve different purposes, and a city mailing address does not establish eligibility for every regional service.
Aurora Housing Authority Program Contacts
Aurora Housing Authority: Contact And Program Questions provides contacts for applications, existing voucher cases, portability and other program questions. At the source check, its tenant-based and project-based Housing Choice Voucher waiting lists were closed to new applicants, with no anticipated reopening date listed. Check current program status before preparing an application. The authority states that it does not provide legal advice for landlord–tenant disputes.
Check Your County for DRCOG Services
DRCOG Aging & Disability Resource Center lists Adams and Arapahoe counties among its service areas, relevant to many Aurora residents. Its resource center assists older adults and adults with disabilities with information and referrals. Confirm the person’s county before assuming coverage. Describe the help needed and ask which regional contact is appropriate if the address falls elsewhere.
RTD Access-a-Ride Assessment
RTD Access-a-Ride Eligibility uses functional eligibility criteria concerning fixed-route transit and has defined route-related coverage. A person may have conditional or temporary eligibility; disability status alone does not answer every trip question. Read the application guidance and confirm that both pickup and destination are within the service area before relying on the service.
Before You Contact a Program
- Confirm the residence’s county as well as its Aurora address.
- For housing, distinguish a new application from an existing case or portability question.
- For support referrals, describe needs and any existing caregiver or service arrangements.
- For transit, note functional travel barriers and ask about the particular trip’s coverage.
Federal Benefits and Next Steps
Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.
