Las Cruces has separate programs for senior support, affordable housing, and shared transportation. The city’s home-care service has important limits, and a housing application is separate from a care assessment. Use the local contacts below to plan the appropriate request.

Senior Case Management and Home Support

Las Cruces Senior Services Guide connects qualifying city residents with case management, home care, and related supports. Registration and an assessment are required. Home care includes tasks such as light housekeeping and meal preparation; city staff do not provide medication administration, personal care, or nursing. Describe the actual tasks needed so staff can explain suitable options.

Mesilla Valley Housing Resources

Mesilla Valley Public Housing Authority provides housing programs for eligible people in Las Cruces, Doña Ana County, and the surrounding region. Its website separates applications, waiting-list information, and the applicant portal for updates and documents. Ask about the specific property or voucher program and current intake; a listed community is not proof of a vacant unit.

Roadrunner Vamonos

Roadrunner Vamonos provides shared rides for eligible people with disabilities and older riders under its separate criteria. Apply and obtain approval before reserving. Return trips are not scheduled automatically, so request both directions. Confirm current booking rules and assistance needs directly; the page contains older schedule notes alongside current information.

Before You Contact a Program

  • Describe the tasks for which help at home is needed.
  • Keep housing applications and support assessments separate.
  • For Vamonos, give exact addresses and request the return journey.

Federal Benefits and Next Steps

Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.

For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
