Reno, Nevada: Disability Resources
On This Page
Reno residents can contact Washoe County for senior-support information, Reno Housing Authority for housing applications, and RTC ACCESS for paratransit. Service boundaries and waiting-list openings differ. Check the particular program rather than assuming that a countywide resource can arrange every service.
Washoe County Senior Support
Washoe County Senior Services Guide describes daily-living support, caregiver resources, education, and community connections for older adults. Use the program links or contact route to explain the help needed. Ask about age, residence, assessment, and availability requirements for that service, especially when coordinating support for a family member.
Housing Lists and Application Follow-Up
Reno Housing Authority Applicant Guide currently lists several property-based waiting lists as open while its Housing Choice Voucher list remains closed. Its Homeless Prevention Program is also not accepting applications because of funding limits. Recheck current notices. Returning applicants can use the portal, keep contact details current, and confirm the specific lists selected.
RTC ACCESS Paratransit
RTC ACCESS assesses disability-related barriers to using RTC RIDE independently. Both the origin and destination must be in the ACCESS service area. After an online application, follow the confirmation email’s instructions to complete eligibility. Request an accessible format if needed and check the map before planning a trip.
Before You Contact a Program
- Identify the support need and Washoe County address.
- Check the housing program’s current status before applying.
- For ACCESS, prepare both trip addresses and examples of travel barriers.
Federal Benefits and Next Steps
Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.
For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
