Missoula’s aging-resource service, housing authority, and Mountain Line can address different practical needs. Each has its own process. For example, a housing property waiting list is separate from rental-assistance enrollment, and transit approval does not establish housing eligibility.

Missoula Aging Services

Missoula Aging Services Call Center can help you identify where to start. Staff can answer questions, arrange a Resource Center appointment, or refer you to another resource. Describe the problem you want help solving and ask what to prepare for an appointment, especially when planning support for an older relative or caregiver.

Missoula Housing Authority

Missoula Housing Authority distinguishes fixed-rent affordable properties from subsidized programs that help pay rent. Individual affordable properties have their own waiting lists. Use the new-applicant route to learn about programs and check status. Ask which application is needed and how to request accessibility features; joining one list does not enroll you in every property or program.

Mountain Line Accessible Transportation

Mountain Line Accessibility offers ADA paratransit and a separate Shuttle Van option for eligible older riders. Both use a defined area around fixed routes and require advance scheduling. ADA eligibility concerns disability-related barriers to the regular bus. The Shuttle Van serves eligible people age 60 or older who do not qualify for ADA paratransit or have seasonal limitations.

Before You Contact a Program

  • Tell the resource center your main question and current support arrangement.
  • Keep track of each housing list separately.
  • Use Mountain Line’s map and confirm which service fits the trip and rider.

Federal Benefits and Next Steps

Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.

For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
