Baton Rouge has distinct programs for older residents, accessible bus travel, and housing assistance. Check East Baton Rouge Parish coverage and current intake status before preparing an application. The housing authority’s application buttons should not be read as proof that a waiting list is open.

East Baton Rouge Aging Services

East Baton Rouge Council on Aging offers information and assistance through care managers, with assessments and referrals for older residents. Its listed services include nutrition support, Medicare and Medicaid assistance, and selected short-term bill assistance. Ask which program fits your circumstances, what its age criteria are, and whether funding or intake is available.

CATS on Demand

CATS On Demand Eligibility bases eligibility on how a permanent, temporary, or intermittent disability affects use of the regular bus system. Some people qualify only in certain circumstances. Describe barriers such as getting to the stop, navigating the route, or boarding, and ask how the application and trip-specific rules apply.

Housing Applications and Waiting Lists

East Baton Rouge Parish Housing Authority currently states that its Affordable Housing and Housing Choice Voucher waiting lists are closed. Recheck its official announcements for changes. Existing applicants should use the relevant status tools. If housing is needed immediately, ask about the emergency-resource routes rather than treating a closed waiting list as an emergency placement service.

Before You Contact a Program

  • Confirm your parish and household details.
  • Write down transportation barriers for the particular trips you need.
  • Check the housing list status again before submitting information.

Federal Benefits and Next Steps

Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.

For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
