State & City Resources
Jacksonville, Florida: Disability Resources
On This Page
For Jacksonville residents, a city service request, an emergency rent problem, and a paratransit application belong with different programs. These three local starting points cover those needs. Confirm the program’s service area and your circumstances before submitting records.
Jacksonville Disabled Services
The City’s Disabled Services Division addresses disability-related barriers and publishes a directory of services. Its page connects residents with transportation, employment, recreation, and accessibility information, plus a route for requesting a service or reporting a problem. For a barrier in a City program or website, describe what you could not access and the accommodation you need. The directory is a navigation resource; it is not an award of housing or financial assistance.
JTA Connexion Paratransit
JTA’s paratransit page explains Connexion, a shared transportation service within Duval County for eligible riders who cannot use fixed-route transit. Start with the Eligibility and Training Center; the application process includes an interview and functional evaluation. Eligibility can be conditional, limiting service to trips where fixed-route transit is inaccessible. Confirm the trip and reservation process before relying on a ride.
Before You Contact a Program
- For access problems, identify the City service, location, and barrier.
- For emergency assistance, ask which household and expense records to provide through the official intake channel.
- For Connexion, explain the actual difficulty using buses or reaching stops, including mobility equipment and assistance needs.
Keep Federal Benefits Separate
Keep any SSA application or appeal moving separately from these local requests. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. The resources listed here do not decide your federal eligibility.
