New Hampshire Disability and Public Benefit Resources
City Resource Guides
On This Page
New Hampshire residents may need a state benefit application, local help with basic expenses, or guidance about services at home. These are different requests. This directory identifies statewide entry points and links to practical resources in Manchester, Nashua, and Concord.
DHHS and NH EASY
DHHS’s assistance application guide links NH EASY for online applications, eligibility information, and application tracking. It also explains paper applications for cash assistance, SNAP, child care, and Medicaid. Health-coverage-only and long-term-care information have their own sections. Read the instructions for the benefit you want rather than assuming one form fits every request. DHHS may ask for an interview and proof of household circumstances after submission.
Aging and Disability Resource Centers
New Hampshire’s ADRC network offers information and referrals to people of different ages, income levels, and abilities, with particular attention to older adults and people with disabilities. Options counselors help people consider long-term supports and can guide them through Medicaid applications. The network also offers caregiver and Medicare counseling resources. Use the location directory to find the appropriate contact, then describe the daily tasks or care arrangements that need attention. A referral does not guarantee a funded service.
VR New Hampshire
The Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation supports people with disabilities in preparing for, obtaining, and succeeding in employment. Its site links service information, an application route, and regional contacts. It also lists orientations about SSDI and SSI work incentives and benefits counseling. If employment is the goal, ask what assessment or planning comes next and how to arrange accessible communication. Vocational services do not substitute for the SSA application for disability payments.
Before You Contact a Program
- Identify your town of residence and whether the need is immediate assistance, ongoing care, or work support.
- For DHHS, keep the application confirmation and provide only the documents the agency requests through its stated channels.
- For care or work planning, describe functional needs, existing supports, and questions about eligibility or waiting lists.
Keep Federal Benefits Separate
State applications, municipal assistance, and federal disability claims each follow their own process. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.

Workers’ Compensation, Medicare and Veterans Benefits in New Hampshire
Each program has its own application and decision process. These starting points help you find the agency or counseling program for New Hampshire.
Workers’ Compensation
The employer’s First Report of Injury, Form 8WC, goes to the department and carrier under the rules. Keep your employee notice separately from that report. The fact that the employer filed a report does not mean it accepted responsibility for benefits.

State Veterans Services

Its Division of Veterans Services assists New Hampshire resident veterans and dependents. The agency website could not be reached during this check; use the directory contact while the link is rechecked.
