State & City Resources
Warwick, Rhode Island: Disability Resources
On This Page
Warwick residents have local options for social support, heating assistance, and selected trips around the city. A city senior program, an energy grant, and a transportation service each have their own enrollment rules.
Warwick Senior Services
The City’s Senior Services page invites people age 55 and older and people with disabilities to join through the Welcome Desk. It describes meals, wellness and social activities, and related supports at the senior center. Use the current newsletter or contact the center about the activity you want, registration, and any accessibility arrangements.
Westbay Community Action
Westbay’s LIHEAP program serves Warwick, West Warwick, East Greenwich, and Coventry. Eligible renters and homeowners may receive heating assistance paid directly to the utility or fuel company. The page provides a new-applicant portal and renewal instructions. Confirm the current application period and requested records; a heating grant does not cover every utility expense.
Transwick Transportation
Transwick serves otherwise homebound Warwick residents age 55 and older who live independently, as well as adults with disabilities living independently. Trips are limited to selected Warwick destinations, such as senior-center programs, grocery shopping, and pharmacies, and depend on availability. The program is not unrestricted transportation. Complete the application and confirm the destination and advance-notice requirements before planning a trip.
Before You Contact a Program
- For senior activities, ask about participation and communication needs.
- For heating help, have household and fuel-account information ready.
- For Transwick, explain available transportation alternatives and verify both the trip and return arrangements.
Keep Federal Benefits Separate
These community services have purposes distinct from federal disability payments. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.
