Cranston residents can seek older-adult support, check housing application information, or contact Comprehensive Community Action Program for basic needs. Program boundaries and available funding vary, even within the same organization.

Cranston Senior Services

The City’s Senior Services Department serves Cranston seniors and their families, with programs for people age 55 and older. Its page links the senior-center website for current offerings. Ask about the particular service, how to register, and any assistance needed to participate; the general age threshold does not establish eligibility for every outside benefit.

Cranston Housing Authority

The housing authority’s applicant page stated that all waiting lists were closed when checked on October 16, 2026. Existing applicants can use the Applicant Portal and request a login code from the authority. Recheck the official notice for changes before attempting a new application. Being on a waiting list does not guarantee a prompt offer.

CCAP Social Services

CCAP’s social-services page describes a local food bank, housing assistance, and energy programs. Its emergency housing assistance covers Cranston, Coventry, Scituate, and Foster, with limited funding. Its LIHEAP coverage is Cranston, Scituate, and Foster. New food-bank clients are asked to arrange an initial intake appointment. Use the online assistance portal or contact Social Services to identify the right program.

Before You Contact a Program

  • Identify the exact program and town of residence when contacting CCAP.
  • Keep housing notices and utility bills available, including any deadlines.
  • Existing housing applicants should check access to their portal and keep contact details current.

Keep Federal Benefits Separate

Local support applications are separate from the federal disability-benefit process. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.
