Lewiston, Maine: Disability Resources
On This Page
Lewiston residents can seek temporary help with basic needs through city Social Services, regional guidance through SeniorsPlus, and disability transit through Citylink. City assistance, the regional aging network, and Lewiston-Auburn transit have different coverage and eligibility rules.
SeniorsPlus
SeniorsPlus serves older adults and adults with disabilities, with its regional aging role focused on Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties. Community services include resource referrals, application assistance, Medicare information, and help understanding long-term care options. Explain your current support arrangements and ask which programs match your needs. Specialized services and home-care arrangements require their own eligibility review.
Citylink ADA Paratransit
Citylink’s accessibility page describes door-to-door transit for people unable to use regular-route buses because of disability. ADA certification and advance reservations are required. The page links to the application and service-area maps. Information and eligibility materials can be requested in accessible formats. Confirm the pickup and destination addresses and discuss assistance needed before arranging the trip.
Before You Contact a Program
- Use your Lewiston residence and household circumstances when requesting city assistance.
- Prepare a short list of benefits or care questions for SeniorsPlus.
- Ask Citylink about the certification process, service map, and return trip.
Keep Federal Benefits Separate
Local assistance, care guidance, and transit eligibility are separate from SSA benefits. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.
