Indiana’s public benefits, long-term support network, and employment services have different application routes. The resources below help you identify the right starting point for household assistance, support at home, or a disability-related work goal. Use your actual county or town when looking for local services.

Manage Benefits Through FSSA

Indiana’s FSSA Benefits Portal guide explains how people applying for or receiving SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid can use an online account. The portal allows applicants to continue an unfinished application, upload requested records, view notices, report changes, and manage benefits. Creating an account requires a valid email address and Social Security number. Keep access to the email used for registration, and follow any separate interview or verification instructions in your case notices. The page identifies a technical-support route if account setup is difficult.

Find an Aging and Disability Resource Center

The INconnect Alliance directory connects residents with regional aging and disability resource centers. Use its city or town lookup to identify the appropriate contact for information about long-term services and supports. This is useful when several needs overlap, such as help at home, caregiver support, and finding community resources. Explain the person’s living arrangement and the tasks that require assistance. Ask which programs fit, how assessments work, and whether cost, funding, or waiting lists affect the options discussed.

Explore Vocational Rehabilitation

Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation helps people whose disabilities create barriers to obtaining, keeping, or advancing in employment. Start with the referral form or contact a VR office; counselors serve each county. Possible services include exploring job interests, assistive technology, and training connected to an employment goal. Eligibility is not based on income or financial resources, but the program still determines eligibility and appropriate services. Prepare examples of the work tasks affected by disability and the support you hope to discuss.

Before You Contact a Program

  • Choose the program based on the immediate need, rather than assuming one application covers everything.
  • Keep a record of application dates, account access, notices, and requested documents.
  • Ask for communication accommodations or application assistance when arranging contact.
  • Confirm the regional service area and any next assessment before traveling.

Keep Federal Benefits Separate

FSSA household benefits, community support referrals, and vocational rehabilitation have separate rules from federal disability income. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.

Workers’ Compensation, Medicare and Veterans Benefits in Indiana

Each program has its own application and decision process. These starting points help you find the agency or counseling program for Indiana.

Workers’ Compensation

The board’s employee page lists Request for Assistance, State Form 45442, for the assistance route. It separately lists Application for Adjustment of Claim, State Form 29109. Read the instructions for the form that matches the action you intend to take.

Medicare Counseling and Cost Help

Free, objective Medicare counseling through the state SHIP network; ask about enrollment, coverage choices, and help with costs.

State Veterans Services

Find your County Veteran Service Officer through the CVSO Locator and review state veteran benefits.

Sources for this benefit-program section checked October 20, 2026. Federal program rules remain separate from state assistance. The rest of this resource guide retains its own review date.
