Meridian has a local senior-center bus service as well as regional transportation and aging resources. These options have different purposes: a ride to a center lunch is not the same booking as a regional appointment trip.

Senior Center Lunch Transportation

Meridian Senior Center Transportation describes a lunch-bus service within specified boundaries and asks callers to verify that their home is in the service area. Trips and excursions have separate meeting instructions. Contact the center about the particular activity and pickup arrangement; do not assume the lunch bus functions as a general-purpose taxi.

VRT Beyond Access

Valley Regional Transit Beyond Access covers much of Ada and Canyon counties, with staff verifying individual trip coverage. Its qualification section directs applicants through the VRT Access process. Trips that can be completed entirely by Access must be booked that way. Ask customer service to confirm current qualification and booking instructions, especially if you previously used an older local transportation program.

Southwest Idaho Care and Caregiver Resources

Southwest Idaho Area Agency On Aging serves Ada County and provides a regional entry point for long-term support information. It lists meals, homemaker help, respite and caregiver programs. Explain the person’s needs and ask which service and assessment are appropriate. Keep that support inquiry separate from a transit eligibility application.

Before You Contact a Program

  • For a center activity, confirm pickup coverage and where the return trip begins.
  • For VRT, give both trip addresses and explain any existing eligibility.
  • For support at home, list the tasks that require assistance.
  • Ask for current instructions rather than using an old program’s phone menu or schedule.

Federal Benefits and Next Steps

Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.

For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
