Boise residents can use regional aging services, Boise City/Ada County housing contacts and Valley Regional Transit. Each serves a different purpose. Check the program name before interpreting a waiting-list announcement or planning a specialized trip.

Boise City/ADA County Housing Programs

Boise City/Ada County Housing Authorities provides housing-related assistance for people with low and moderate incomes in its city and county service area. Its site separates programs, participants and landlord information. A notice for a market-rate housing waiting list is not an announcement that every subsidized program is open. Use the program-specific page or inquiry route to confirm current options.

Southwest Idaho Aging Services

Southwest Idaho Area Agency On Aging covers Ada County and identifies Information and Assistance as the main entry point. Its programs include caregiver support, meals, homemaker services and respite. Explain the person’s needs and residence, then ask about eligibility and availability for the particular service. A regional referral is not the same as enrollment.

Apply for VRT Access

Valley Regional Transit Access serves people unable to use fixed-route or on-demand buses because of a disability. Eligibility may be conditional and individual trips can be reviewed. Service follows route-related coverage, requires reservations and depends on current certification. Use the operator’s application instructions and confirm both trip addresses before relying on a ride.

Before You Contact a Program

  • For housing, identify whether the question concerns a subsidy, a property or an existing case.
  • For aging services, list daily needs and existing caregiver support.
  • For transit, explain functional barriers and any current certification.
  • Retain each application or referral number and follow-up request.

Federal Benefits and Next Steps

Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.

For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
