Little Rock, Arkansas: Disability Resources
On This Page
Little Rock residents can approach CareLink for aging-service information, the city for certain home-repair programs and Rock Region METRO for accessible transit. Their service boundaries and application rules differ, even when the same person needs all three kinds of help.
CareLink in Pulaski County
CareLink: Central Arkansas Aging Services serves six central Arkansas counties, including Pulaski County. Its information and assistance staff can connect older adults and families with CareLink services or other organizations. Eligibility varies by service, including age, income or medical requirements. Explain whether the need concerns a homebound adult, an active older adult or a caregiver.
City Home-Repair Programs
Little Rock Community Development describes assistance for qualifying low-income homeowners, including older adults and people with disabilities. The Limited Home Repair Program uses a forgivable loan secured by a lien, rather than an unrestricted cash payment. Owner-occupancy and other requirements apply. Ask which current program fits the repair and request its terms before agreeing to work.
METRO Links Eligibility
Rock Region METRO: Links Eligibility requires an application completed by the applicant and a licensed health-care provider. Eligibility concerns disability-related barriers to fixed-route transit. Service reaches qualifying portions of Little Rock and North Little Rock within the stated fixed-route coverage area. Check the route map for both trip addresses; a Little Rock address alone does not establish coverage.
Before You Contact a Program
- For CareLink, describe the person’s daily support needs and county of residence.
- For repairs, identify ownership, occupancy history and the specific problem.
- For transit, describe barriers to reaching, boarding or using the bus.
- Ask each program about current application availability and required supporting information.
Federal Benefits and Next Steps
Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.
