State & City Resources
Seattle, Washington: Disability Resources
On This Page
Seattle residents have separate resources for access to city services, affordable housing, and King County Metro Access transportation. The city’s disability-resource page helps identify the right accessibility contact; it is not a combined benefit application. Housing and transit each require their own next steps.
Access to City Programs
Seattle Disability Access Guide links to accessibility information and accommodation contacts for city services, including parks, libraries, and other municipal activities. It also identifies complaint routes. Name the service and the barrier when requesting assistance, so the question reaches the appropriate city team.
Seattle Housing Authority Applications
Seattle Housing Authority Application Guide asks applicants to review program eligibility and application instructions and use its property search before applying. Online and paper application information is available. Check the program and property that fit the request, and ask about application help rather than assuming one application covers all local housing.
Metro Access Transportation
King County Metro Access Transportation requires a separate eligibility process for people whose disabilities prevent use of regular transit. The application includes healthcare-professional verification and an in-person evaluation. Use the service map for the specific day and trip; coverage follows the relevant regular transit service rather than every King County address.
Before You Contact a Program
- For city access questions, identify the program and accommodation needed.
- Review the housing property and application instructions before submitting.
- For Access, prepare trip addresses and healthcare-professional contact information.
Federal Benefits and Next Steps
Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.
For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
