State & City Resources
Frederick, Maryland: Disability Resources
On This Page
Frederick residents can use county programs for benefits navigation and transportation as well as the local state social services office. The resources below cover Frederick County, including the city, but each program has its own age, disability, household, or registration requirements.
Frederick County Maryland Access Point
Frederick County MAP serves adults aged 50 and older, adults aged 18 and older with disabilities, and caregivers. It can discuss potential public benefits, refer people to services, and help compare costs and care choices. Explain both your immediate concern and longer-term needs. Financial assistance from a referred program remains subject to that program’s rules.
Frederick County Department of Social Services
Frederick County DSS is a local contact for SNAP, Temporary Cash Assistance, Medical Assistance, and other listed programs. Its page provides application preparation information, including identity, address, household income, and expenses. Ask which documents apply to your request; the requirements for food assistance, medical coverage, and cash assistance are not identical.
Frederick County Transit-Plus
Transit-Plus provides curb-to-curb demand-response transportation for adults aged 60 and older and people with disabilities. Registration is required before use, with an application available online or by request. Trips can be scheduled by phone or through the online portal. Check your route, booking arrangements, and assistance needs before relying on a ride for an appointment.
Before You Contact a Program
- Tell MAP the age and county of residence of the person needing support.
- Gather current benefit letters and household information before contacting DSS.
- Register for Transit-Plus before arranging a trip and confirm both the outward and return journey.
Keep Federal Benefits Separate
County transportation registration and local support planning are separate from an SSDI or SSI application. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.
