Rockville, Maryland: Disability Resources
On This Page
Rockville combines city programs with Montgomery County services. A Rockville postal address does not by itself establish eligibility for a city-only program. Check municipal boundaries first, particularly when seeking emergency financial assistance or senior transportation.
Rockville Emergency Assistance Program
Rockville’s Emergency Assistance Program (REAP) requires at least six months of city residency and demonstrated financial need. Rent assistance requires a current court eviction notice; utility assistance requires a shut-off notice or disconnection. The application sequence starts with Montgomery County DHHS, which refers eligible city residents to Rockville. Follow that sequence before arranging a city appointment.
Montgomery County Aging and Disability Resource Unit
The county’s Aging and Disability Resource Unit offers information, referrals, eligibility screening, and application help for older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers. Its own assistance has no fee, while referred services can have separate costs and rules. Call first to arrange an in-person appointment and ask what income or asset documentation a particular benefit requires.
Rockville Senior Support Services
City Senior Support Services provides resource referrals and information about financial assistance, home support, and transportation. Its shuttle is for city residents aged 60 and older and requires reservations. Check enrollment for the specific service: the page currently reports that the lunch program is not accepting new registrants. A service directory is not a guarantee of available space.
Before You Contact a Program
- Use the city’s address check before applying for city-only assistance.
- Keep eviction or utility notices available and tell staff about their deadlines.
- Ask whether your request needs county screening, a referral, a reservation, or a separate program application.
Keep Federal Benefits Separate
City emergency assistance and county aging services do not substitute for applying to SSA. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.
