Nashua’s welfare office, transit system, and tenant-resource directory offer three practical starting points. Use the one that fits the immediate need and confirm which application or referral is required.

Nashua Welfare Department

The Welfare Department offers interim assistance for low-income residents or people experiencing financial hardship, including help with rent, food, utilities, and medication. Applicants receive a confidential household review. The page lists identification, residency information, and forms that may be required for particular circumstances. People living outside Nashua are directed to their own town office.

Nashua Transit System ADA Paratransit

NTS paratransit is shared transportation for people unable to use CityBus because of disability or a health condition. Application approval is required. Trips follow the corridor within three-quarters of a mile of CityBus routes during operating times, and do not cross the state line into Massachusetts. Riders may request door-to-door help when scheduling. Confirm both trip endpoints and any assistance needed.

City Tenant-Resource Directory

Nashua’s Tenant Resources page groups legal and financial-support contacts, including New Hampshire Legal Assistance, the state human-rights commission, Front Door Agency, and Southern New Hampshire Services. It is a navigation resource, not a promise of legal representation or rental funds. Follow the relevant provider’s link and ask about its service area, intake rules, and ability to address the issue.

Before You Contact a Program

  • Keep rent, utility, or other notices and their deadlines available.
  • For transit, identify the exact destination, return trip, and mobility assistance required.
  • When using the tenant directory, describe the problem and ask which provider handles it.

Keep Federal Benefits Separate

Municipal help and transportation certification have different purposes from SSA benefits. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.

Return to New Hampshire resources or browse the state resource directory.
