Huntington, West Virginia: Disability Resources
On This Page
Huntington residents can seek help with household benefits, older-adult support, and affordable housing through different local organizations. The county programs below serve Cabell County; confirm the correct office if your Huntington-area address is in a different county.
Cabell County DoHS Office
The Cabell County DoHS office in Huntington lists SNAP, Medicaid, Medicare premium assistance, emergency assistance, and other family assistance programs. Explain the benefit or case problem you need help with and ask what records are required. Applying for one program does not establish eligibility for every service on the office’s directory.
Cabell County Community Services Organization
CCCSO’s services directory describes home-delivered and congregate meals, transportation, and in-home support. Its older-adult programs include nutrition and trips to medical appointments, pharmacies, grocery stores, and senior centers. Ask about age and assessment requirements, the service area, and current availability for the specific program. Different in-home services can require separate financial or medical screening.
Huntington West Virginia Housing Authority
The housing authority’s application page provides the official application and waiting-list status route. Prepare household names, dates of birth, income, and Social Security information. The authority warns against duplicate applications and explains that a pre-application does not guarantee waiting-list placement. Confirm current openings and follow its written process for reporting changes or requesting application assistance.
Before You Contact a Program
- Confirm Cabell County residency when contacting county programs.
- For meals or home support, describe the assistance needed and ask about intake before relying on a service.
- Save the housing confirmation number and keep contact information current so notices reach you.
Keep Federal Benefits Separate
Local housing and household assistance are separate from the federal disability application process. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.
