Salt Lake City residents can combine county aging-service navigation with city housing information and regional transit resources. Each has its own intake process. In particular, a housing application and a paratransit eligibility evaluation address different needs and should be tracked separately.

County Aging and Caregiver Services

Salt Lake County Aging and Adult Services Guide lists local programs for older adults and caregivers, including home and community care, Meals on Wheels, and Rides for Wellness. Use the service list to identify a possible contact, then ask about the program’s age, residence, assessment, and availability requirements.

Affordable Housing Applications

Housing Authority of Salt Lake City offers housing and voucher information for low-income households in Salt Lake County. Its centralized application links with Housing Connect so applicants can apply to both agencies through that system. Confirm the property or waiting list selected, and keep the application record and contact information current.

UTA Paratransit Eligibility

UTA Paratransit Guide explains service for people whose disabilities prevent independent use of regular transit under qualifying circumstances. A disability label alone is insufficient. The process includes a mobility evaluation; ask about the application, appointment, trip coverage, and assistance needed beyond the curb.

Before You Contact a Program

  • Identify the county aging service that matches the need.
  • Record which housing agency, property, or waiting list the application covers.
  • For UTA, describe practical travel barriers and confirm both trip addresses.

Federal Benefits and Next Steps

Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.

For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
