Omaha residents can contact regional aging staff, the city’s housing authority, and Metro Transit for different kinds of help. Transportation boundaries do not follow every county line, and senior housing has age requirements. Confirm the program that fits before completing paperwork.

Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging

Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging Information and Assistance provides information and assistance for older adults and people helping them. It serves Douglas, Sarpy, Dodge, Cass, and Washington counties. Staff can answer questions, make an appropriate referral for ENOA in-home services, or connect you with another resource. Describe the need and ask about the specific program’s eligibility.

Omaha Housing Authority Senior Housing

Omaha Housing Authority Senior Housing lists communities designated for older and near-older households, with age criteria shown on the page. Some units have accessibility features. Ask about the particular property, household qualifications, and waiting-list process; an accessible-unit description does not mean a suitable unit is vacant or immediately available.

MOBY Paratransit

Metro Transit MOBY serves registered riders whose disability prevents access to Metro’s regular bus network. Submit the applicant and medical-professional forms together. Service follows the area, days, and hours of fixed routes. Metro specifically distinguishes Council Bluffs’ separate paratransit provider, so check the operator and both addresses for a cross-river trip.

Before You Contact a Program

  • State your county when requesting ENOA information.
  • Ask about age and accessibility requirements for the chosen housing property.
  • For MOBY, identify functional barriers and the exact origin and destination.

Federal Benefits and Next Steps

Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.

For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
