State & City Resources
Jackson, Mississippi: Disability Resources
On This Page
Jackson residents can use city housing programs and regional or county assistance. Confirm your home county before starting: the community-action entry below serves Hinds County, while CMPDD covers a wider seven-county region.
CMPDD Aging and Care Resources
CMPDD’s Area Agency on Aging serves Copiah, Hinds, Madison, Rankin, Simpson, Warren, and Yazoo counties. Its information and referral service helps older adults and caregivers identify support; Mississippi Access to Care helps navigate longer-term options. Meals, homemaker help, and other services have distinct age or functional requirements. Ask which screening applies to your circumstances.
Hinds County Household Assistance
HCHRA’s Community Services Block Grant program offers low-income households training, referrals, and assistance across needs such as housing, nutrition, and employment. The page directs applicants to a Virtual ROMA pre-application, followed by staff eligibility review. Confirm the assistance currently available and how to arrange follow-up. The pre-application alone is not an award.
Jackson Housing Authority
JHA’s public housing page explains separate property waiting lists. Lists open when a site needs applicants, and eligibility is reviewed when an applicant reaches the appropriate stage. Check the property’s current application instructions, rather than assuming every development is accepting applications. Ask about accessibility needs and how to report contact or household changes.
Before You Contact a Program
- Confirm your county for HCHRA and CMPDD referrals.
- Keep housing applications and community-assistance confirmations separate.
- Describe the help you need with completing forms or receiving notices.
Keep Federal Benefits Separate
County assistance and a housing waiting-list application do not file a federal disability claim. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.
