Bowling Green, Kentucky: Disability Resources
On This Page
Bowling Green residents can use the Barren River regional support network, the city’s Housing Division, and GoBG Transit for different needs. Confirm whether a program uses the city boundary, a regional service area, or a particular transit route.
Barren River Aging and Disability Resource Center
BRADD’s Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living connects older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers with community resources across its ten-county region. After a referral, intake staff discuss the need and may arrange an appointment or waiting-list placement depending on the program. The agency also identifies free SHIP benefits counseling. Describe the help needed at home and ask which assessment applies.
City Housing Division
Bowling Green’s housing-assistance page explains Housing Choice Vouchers and its application restrictions. At source review, applications were accepted only from households meeting one or more listed preferences, with supporting verification required before submission. Listed categories include local residence or employment, certain homelessness referrals, Scholar House, and displacement by government action. Read the exact definitions; living somewhere in Warren County does not necessarily meet a city-based preference.
GoBG Transit
The city’s transit page directs riders to GoBG’s route planning and ADA paratransit application. Contact the transit provider to discuss disability-related travel needs, the application process, and coverage for both trip endpoints. Accessible information formats and translation services are available on request. Check current schedules and arrangements before a trip, including how to arrange any return journey.
Before You Contact a Program
- Give the regional resource center your county and specific support need.
- Check the housing preference and acceptable verification before submitting an application.
- Ask transit staff for an accessible application format and service-area confirmation.
Keep Federal Benefits Separate
Local support, rental assistance, and transportation use separate procedures from federal disability applications. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.
