Cedar Rapids, Iowa: Disability Resources
On This Page
Cedar Rapids residents can check Linn County’s financial-assistance status, homemaker services and LIFTS transportation. Current availability matters: a program may remain listed even when it is not accepting new applications.
Check General Assistance Availability First
Linn County General Assistance directs people who believe they meet its eligibility guidelines to an online screening form. The county lists primary eligibility requirements and says additional requirements may depend on the person’s situation. Its page also points readers to Waypoint for possible community assistance and an Iowa Legal Aid Help Desk for pending eviction matters. Review the county’s current instructions before applying; submitting a screening form does not guarantee assistance.
Non-Medical Help at Home
Linn County Home Health describes a General Homemaker Program for older adults and people with disabilities whose health limits everyday activities. Referrals can be made through several contact methods. Services are prioritized by need, and fees use a sliding scale based on income and resources. Ask about assessment, the tasks covered and current availability.
LIFTS Metro Transportation
Linn County LIFTS serves eligible riders in Cedar Rapids, Marion and Hiawatha. Cedar Rapids Transit administers the metro ADA eligibility process. Rural Linn County transportation follows different eligibility rules, and the county says LIFTS trips are currently limited to Linn County. Ask for the relevant application and confirm both ends of your trip.
Before You Contact a Program
- Check whether the assistance program is taking applications before collecting a full packet.
- If facing eviction, keep the notice and hearing information available for a legal-help inquiry.
- For homemaker support, describe the non-medical tasks needing assistance.
- For LIFTS, identify the metro or rural service and exact trip addresses.
