For Kailua-Kona, start with West Hawaii contacts and the county’s Kona-specific transit map. Hawaii County housing resources serve the island, but that does not make every transport option island-wide or every housing program interchangeable.

West Hawaii Aging Contact

Hawaii County Office Of Aging identifies a West Hawaii office in Kailua-Kona with an Aging and Disability Resource Center component. This is a local starting point for discussing support needs rather than arranging a trip to the East Hawaii office by default. Ask which services, assessments or referrals are appropriate for the person’s circumstances.

County Rental-Assistance Waiting Lists

Hawaii County Housing Waiting Lists separates the Housing Choice Voucher list from property-specific Project-Based Voucher information. The HCV list was open when checked; review current status before applying. Existing applicants must keep their mailing and other contact information current. Ask which list matches the housing sought, and plan separately for a security deposit because OHCD does not provide it.

Kona Paratransit Coverage

Hawaii County Hele-On Kakoʻo Paratransit includes an Intra-Kona map and serves eligible riders in the Kailua-Kona service area. The process involves an application and in-person eligibility assessment. A disability diagnosis alone does not establish eligibility, and the program does not cover every Hawaii Island trip. Check both addresses and request application assistance or accessible materials when needed.

Before You Contact a Program

  • Use the West Hawaii aging contact for a Kailua-Kona support question.
  • Identify the exact housing program or property before applying.
  • Check the Kona coverage map against both trip addresses.
  • Keep application, assessment and reservation information in separate records.

Federal Benefits and Next Steps

Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.

For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
