Atlanta, Georgia: Disability Resources
On This Page
Atlanta-area services do not all follow the same boundaries. Fulton County STARline serves older county residents, Atlanta Housing describes city housing options, and MARTA Mobility uses a defined transit service area. Check the scope that applies to your address and needs.
Fulton County STARline
STARline is a free information and referral service for Fulton County residents aged 60 and older, their families, and caregivers. Specialists connect people with providers and community resources that can support remaining at home. Explain the assistance you need and ask about the provider’s intake process. Atlanta-area residents outside Fulton County should confirm the correct county resource.
Atlanta Housing Options
Atlanta Housing’s housing options page distinguishes its residential communities, Homeflex properties, supportive housing, and Housing Choice Voucher program. Several options use property-based waiting lists. Its high-rise community criteria include older households and non-elderly adults with disabilities. Check the specific development’s eligibility and list status; one housing application does not necessarily cover every property or program.
MARTA Mobility
MARTA’s accessible services page explains Mobility, a shared-ride service for people unable to use regular MARTA transit because of disability. Applicants complete their section, obtain the provider section, and attend an interview and assessment. Service is limited to the designated area around routes and stations. Confirm both trip endpoints and request accessible application information if needed.
Before You Contact a Program
- Give STARline your county, age, and the daily support you are seeking.
- Ask a housing property which waiting list applies and how to request application assistance.
- For Mobility, describe travel limitations and confirm the assessment and advance-reservation process.
Keep Federal Benefits Separate
County referrals, affordable housing, and transit eligibility are separate from federal disability eligibility. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.
