State & City Resources
Newark, Delaware: Disability Resources
On This Page
These resources are for Newark, Delaware and its surrounding service areas. The state service center, housing authority, and senior center have different responsibilities. Confirm your address and the program you need so you do not confuse Newark services with those in another state.
Floyd I. Hudson State Service Center
The Hudson State Service Center in Newark provides information and case support for social services and Medicaid. Its services include SNAP, a food pantry, utility assistance, and emergency cash assistance. Ask whether your need calls for a new application or action on an existing case, and which supporting documents the program needs.
Newark Housing Authority
Newark Housing Authority’s public housing page explains income, household, and other eligibility requirements. Its senior waiting-list section is for people aged 62 and older; confirm the current status and how to apply directly with the authority. Placement on a waiting list does not guarantee housing. If you need an accessible unit or help completing paperwork, raise that need when contacting the authority.
Newark Senior Center Transportation
Newark Senior Center’s transportation program offers members door-to-door trips to the center, program-related transportation, and scheduled shopping trips. Membership and advance booking are required, and a defined service area applies. Confirm that your address is covered and discuss any caregiver or aide needs before scheduling. This is a senior-center service, not a promise of transportation to any destination.
Before You Contact a Program
- Give your full Delaware address when checking transportation or housing coverage.
- Ask the senior center about membership and your intended trip before arranging other appointments.
- Keep copies of applications and report changes through the relevant program’s stated process.
Keep Federal Benefits Separate
State benefits and local transportation or housing programs do not use a single combined federal disability application. SSA’s Disability page[1] explains SSDI; SSA’s SSI overview[2] explains SSI. Apply for federal benefits through SSA. Starting a local service application does not file an SSDI or SSI claim.
