Anchorage has a municipal information service, a separate accessible transportation program and community-specific housing contacts. Use the service that matches the task; a conversation about care options is different from a transit eligibility decision or a housing application.

Start With Care and Benefits Navigation

Anchorage Aging And Disability Resource Center helps Anchorage seniors, people with disabilities and families understand services and applications. Topics include benefits, adaptive equipment, caregivers and housing. It also helps start the Person-Centered Intake for Medicaid waiver services. Describe the support you need rather than guessing which waiver or program to select.

Check Accessible Transportation

Municipality Of Anchorage: AnchorRIDES provides shared, accessible rides within urbanized Anchorage. The municipal Public Transportation Department determines customer eligibility. Use its application and service-area links before planning a trip; the broader municipality and the covered transportation area should not be treated as interchangeable.

Use the Anchorage Housing Entry

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation: Local Housing Offices has a dedicated Anchorage application contact and lists local housing programs. Select the Anchorage section and ask about the relevant waiting list. A housing-office listing is not an offer of a voucher or available apartment.

Before You Contact a Program

  • For ADRC, list the daily activities or application steps you need help with.
  • For AnchorRIDES, prepare both trip addresses and describe your access needs.
  • For housing, note household size and essential accessibility features.
  • Ask which documents and follow-up actions belong to each application.

Federal Benefits and Next Steps

Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.

For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
