Nebraska Disability and Community Resources
City Resource Guides
On This Page
Nebraska’s statewide benefit tools and local resource centers serve different roles. DHHS handles state benefits and Medicaid, while Aging and Disability Resource Centers help people understand community and long-term support options. Use the route that matches the help needed, then keep the application and referral records separate.
Use DHHS to Reach Official Benefit Tools
Nebraska DHHS links to iServe Nebraska for exploring and applying for benefits. It also provides routes to submit requested documents, renew benefits, report changes, and review account information. Choose the action that matches your situation: a renewal or a document request may not call for a new application. Keep a record of your submission.
Medicaid Coverage Applications
Nebraska Medicaid Eligibility and Applications explains online, telephone, paper, and local-office routes. Eligibility depends on the applicable category and individual circumstances. The page separately directs people with disabilities to disability-related application guidance. Ask which information is needed for your household and coverage request rather than relying on a single general description of eligibility.
Aging and Disability Resource Centers
Nebraska Aging and Disability Resource Center serves Nebraskans age 60 or older, people with disabilities of all ages, and those supporting them. Local centers provide information, referrals, options counseling, and benefits assistance. They can help explore equipment, meals, housing, transportation, or support at home; that navigation is different from approval or funding for a particular service.
Before You Contact a Program
- Identify the need: health coverage, basic expenses, or daily assistance.
- Have notices and the names of programs you already use available.
- Ask which local center serves your county and whether services have separate rules.
- Request a clear next step and a way to follow up on the referral or application.
Federal Benefits and Next Steps
Apply for SSDI[1] or SSI[2] through the Social Security Administration. Local resource programs have separate applications and do not decide federal disability benefits.
For the federal process, read our Disability Application Guide and Document Preparation Checklist.
