Utah Workers’ Compensation: Claims, Disputes, and Help
On This Page
Which System Handles This Claim?
Utah’s Industrial Accidents Division provides claim intake assistance and explains workers’ compensation rights. If an unresolved dispute requires a hearing, the Labor Commission’s Adjudication Division handles that separate proceeding.
How Do I Report the Injury?
Report the work injury or illness to the employer immediately. Ask about the employer report, insurer, and claim number. The division also explains how a medical provider’s report contributes to the claims process.
What Do I File?
The employer or carrier may require an initial visit to a preferred provider. Utah then permits a one-time provider change under specified conditions and requires notice to the insurer or self-insured employer. Check those requirements before arranging the change.
What if Benefits Are Disputed?
If a claim is denied, ask the adjuster for the reason and whether missing information could resolve it. The division’s intake staff may assist. If the dispute remains, the worker can file an Application for Hearing with the Adjudication Division and ask about a Claims Resolution Conference.
Where Can I Get Help, and What Should I Bring?
Keep the denial and medical evidence, especially the provider’s explanation of work connection and restrictions. The division warns that its industrial-accident records are not the same as your medical records; those may need to be obtained from the provider or insurer. Ask about the correct records source when preparing a hearing.
