Idaho Workers’ Compensation: Claims, Disputes, and Help
On This Page
Which System Handles This Claim?
The Idaho Industrial Commission is the state agency overseeing claims and resolving disputes; it is not the State Insurance Fund, which is an insurer. Knowing which organization you are contacting helps avoid sending a claim dispute only to the insurance company.
How Do I Report the Injury?
Report the workplace injury or occupational illness to the employer and ask about the First Report of Injury. The commission explains how a worker can proceed when an employer does not submit a report. Keep your own copy and identify the correct insurer.
What Do I File?
Use the commission’s injured-worker page for the initial-report instructions and forms. Track the insurer’s decision and the benefits at issue. A claim report gives the insurer information; it does not by itself resolve a disagreement about benefits.
What if Benefits Are Disputed?
The commission offers voluntary mediation and a formal complaint process. A hearing request involves additional steps, including the appropriate request to place a matter on the hearing calendar. Read the current complaint and hearing instructions before filing.
Where Can I Get Help, and What Should I Bring?
Idaho also offers commission rehabilitation consultants who can assist with return-to-work issues. For a dispute, bring the denial, medical evidence, wage information, and any proposed job description. Identify whether you need help obtaining payment, understanding a formal complaint, or exploring work within documented restrictions; those are different needs.
