Which System Handles This Claim?

Florida’s division provides injured-employee guidance and an Employee Assistance and Ombudsman Office. Benefits are ordinarily handled by the employer’s insurer. The ombudsman can help address a problem without becoming the judge of a disputed claim.

How Do I Report the Injury?

Report the injury to your employer and ask who the insurer has authorized to provide care. The employee FAQ discusses authorized medical treatment; a doctor covered by ordinary health insurance is not automatically authorized for a workers’ compensation claim.

What Do I File?

Follow up with the insurer about the claim number, requested benefits, and missing information. If the employer has not reported the injury, use the division’s employee assistance resources to ask how to get the claim reported.

What if Benefits Are Disputed?

When the insurer will not resolve a benefits dispute, the FAQ identifies a Petition for Benefits filed through the Office of the Judges of Compensation Claims. Asking an ombudsman for help is not the same as filing that petition or meeting its requirements.

Where Can I Get Help, and What Should I Bring?

Prepare a short list separating unpaid medical treatment, wage-loss checks, and the reason given for denial. Include the insurer’s letters and the treating provider’s work-status report. Ask which filing requirements apply before relying on negotiations to preserve the claim. The official employee hub links reporting instructions, FAQs, and the assistance office.
