2021 Stimulus Timing for Social Security and VA Beneficiaries

Two Dated Payment Announcements

The IRS’s April 7, 2021 bulletin described a payment batch that included Social Security and other beneficiaries. It also said payments for certain non-filer VA beneficiaries were expected on April 14 if no additional processing issues arose.

Those dates were part of the third Economic Impact Payment rollout. They were not standing payment dates for SSDI, SSI or VA disability compensation, and an expected batch date did not establish when every individual received a payment.

Keep Relief and Regular Benefits Separate

Receiving a recurring federal benefit and qualifying for a pandemic relief payment were different questions. A stimulus headline should not be used to predict the amount or timing of a current monthly benefit.

If You Are Reviewing an Old Payment

Use historical IRS notices and your online account records to identify the tax year and payment amount. The third-round program has ended, and the old Get My Payment tool is no longer available. If the issue concerns a current Social Security or VA payment, use that agency’s current instructions instead of a 2021 relief notice.
